Straight No Chaser

We are going to rewind a little bit to the Friday before Christmas. We had agreed to bring a friend of ours to the airport in Tampa and so we decided to take advantage of the fact that we were making the trip. We made a day of it around the Tampa area and topped it off with a couple of tickets to Straight No Chaser.

If you haven't heard about this acapella group, you need to check them out because you will love them. We first heard them on the radio last year singing their version of the 12 days of Christmas (which is amazing). I rarely will hunt a song down, but for this one I hunted. I found the song and video on YouTube after a little searching and after seeing the video I was hooked. (They also have a pretty awesome backstory).

This was around Christmas last year so we went out and got their Christmas CD (Another thing that only happens when I really like something) and spent the next few weeks listening to it on repeat (we can sometimes have additive personalities). I also obsessively made everybody I knew watch the video online because I thought it was that amazing. Needless to say, when I found out that we missed their concert in MA by one day a few months later I was pretty disappointed.

Switching back to a few weeks ago, I randomly checked that Friday morning if there were any concerts going on that we could go to that night. By some sheer chance, Straight No Chaser was performing one night in Tampa and that night happend to be Friday night. I was extremely psyched and immediately bought tickets.

I've been to my fair share of concerts (from the bad, where I had a bucket of water thrown on me, to the great) and out of all of them I would say this one tied for second (Billy Joel beat it and Barenaked Ladies tied). The music was amazing, the guys performed great and it was hilarious. I was actually crying at one point because I was laughing so hard. Here are a few pics from the show.

One of the cool things about this group is that they use their fans for publicity. They do this by encouraging people to take pics and videos during the concert and sharing them with their friends. It's one of those little things helps them out, but at the same time makes you like them more.

They did a wide variety of songs ranging from Weezer to the Four Seasons to Lady Gaga with some Christmas songs mixed in (The last pic is of them singing You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch)

And just in case you've never heard them before, here are a couple of clips from the concert.

As you can tell from the videos, everyone was having a pretty great time. We really enjoyed ourselves and the guys even came out after the concert to meet everyone and to sign items (the guy in front of me had them sign his iPhone... not the case but the phone... the response he got was "really??" which I thought was hilarious).

Has anyone else been obsessed with new group recently or gone to a great concert? As you can probably tell we like quirky fun music so we would love suggestions for new groups!
