Back Entranceway

We are still patiently waiting for our shipment to arrive for our pantry shelves, but we have been able to make some progress in the new back entryway. We had framed out the old doorway, drywalled, spackled, and sanded everything down.

While it was technically functional at this point, but it was not pretty and since we are stalled on the pantry, we decided to prettify (which I just learned is a real word) the entranceway.

We whipped out the primer and gave everything a coat.

Then I painted the room with Valspar's paint/primer combo in Hunter White and semigloss. It is a grey with a slight green undertone. I ended up using 2 coats to get even coverage (I'm not super impressed by their paint/primer combo).

We still have a gaping hole next to the door where we still need to hook up the outside flood lamp to the inside switch. This is a project for later and since the space is completely isolated in the room, I just left it to be painted later.

After the two coats went up and everything dried, we both decided that the paint was a little darker than we wanted. I have wanted to use stripes on the walls for awhile now, and the darkness/small space seemed the perfect combination to add some stripes.

I first measured out where I wanted the stripes, and then using our big level and a pencil I drew the lines on the walls and then used painter's tape to mark out my lines.

I then primed the stripes and painted them with the color that was left over from the previous owners (it's a creamy white that is on every other wall in our house).

A few coats later I pulled up the tape and admired my new striped wall!

The last thing I did was put the trim piece back on the window and caulk around it so it looks like it never came out! It is now prettified! (I am now going to used this word all the time now!)

This is the view when you walk in the back door. We have our Ikea cart that I tiled and stained eons ago acting as a shoe rack and key drop.

When we were fixing the electrical in the pantry, we also wired the light in the entrance way to a new switch so you don't have to try to find a pull chain in the dark.

We like the stripes so much more then the one color. It's much brighter and adds a fun little element.

We also lucked out and the green undertones in our tile goes really well with the paint color... this was not planned at all.

Our plan is to move the blackboard from the kitchen to this area since the blackboard is on the wall we are going to take down. We also need to add some hooks, maybe a coat rack, and an umbrella stand and we will be done with this area!
