Ceiling Coloring Done

Awhile ago I posted this picture (about the new pot rack location) which clearly showed some ceiling painting progress around the perimeter of the kitchen ceiling but nothing in the center.

The center square hadn't seen a lick of paint until this past weekend because of this bugger:

When we decided to put in the beams, we decided to also center the light in the center square instead of leaving it about 6 in off center. While this was an awesome, heads-up, decision (instead of constantly regretting not doing it) it did require a hole to be patched. The basic patching process isn't hard but we had some issues initially with unevenness, then we had a baby, and before you know it, it's been 6 months of a wacky half patched hole in the ceiling.

We also have textured everything... walls and ceilings. We have patched a ton of stuff in the house so far, have tried a ton of different methods, and have been slightly unsatisfied with all of them in terms of matching texture... that is until now. Now we have this guy

This is a sponge roller and it is awesome. We thinned out some wall putty, loaded this guy up and rolled over our obnoxious hole. After playing around with it for a bit, we got the best match we have ever gotten by far. After a little primer, you would never know there used to be a hole. We were actually smiling and both agreed it looked great vs our normal "it's good enough" patch jobs.

And once the hole was finally dealt with, the center area could finally be painted. After primer and two coats of paint + touch ups, we finally have all the color up.

Have I mentioned how much painting ceilings suck? It takes so much longer than walls since doing anything over my head wears my shoulders out so fast. Luckily, I'm so stoked about the color of the ceiling. This is a 100% win since even if I didn't like it, there is no way it would get repainted anytime soon.

Unfortunately, this is not the end of the hands over head work. We still have to caulk all the current trim, put up crown, caulk that and then paint all the beams... don't worry though, I'm considering this training for carrying around Will... or is carrying him around trainging for this?
